Polk Senior Games is a non-profit, 501(c) (3), corporation that presents an annual two-week series of Olympic-style sports and games for men and women 50 years of age and over. The Games begin on the last Saturday of February. The Games inspire an active lifestyle, combine an interest in sports and games with fun and fellowship, promote a positive image of seniors and recognize their efforts and achievements, and encourage volunteerism. The Games attract nearly 2,500 men and women with a variety of skills - the serious competitor, the fun at heart, the seasoned athlete, the late bloomer, and the physically challenged.
99 competitive events are offered in 36 sports and games: Archery, Bag Toss, Basketball Shooting, Basketball 3 on 3, Billiards, Bocce, Bowling, Bridge, Checkers, Chess, Cribbage, Dancing, Darts, Euchre, Field Events, Fishing, Golf 18 Hole and Putt & Chip, Horseshoes, Lawn Bowling, Pepper, Pickleball, Punt Pass Kick, Racquetball, Road Race 5K, Scrabble, Senior Smarts, Pistol Shooting, Rifle Shooting, Skeet Shooting, Sporting Clays, Trap Shooting, Shuffleboard, Softball, Sudoku, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track, and Walking. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded in each event and age division. Events are held at various locations throughout Polk County.
Registration begins the first week of January. The individual entry fee is $10 for the first event and $3 for each additional event up to a maximum of $28. Fees for team sports are $150 for Softball, $50 for Basketball 3 on 3, and $36 for Bowling. There are also facility fees for a few events - $25 for Golf Singles, $25 for Golf Mixed Doubles, $6 for Bowling, $10 for Archery and $10-25 for Shooting events. Everyone receives a specially designed T-shirt. A free Closing Celebration for participants, family and friends is includes goody bags, health fair, special awards, door prizes and entertainment.
