About the 2011 Autism Health & Wellness Symposium: Connecting Communities
Welcome to the 2nd Annual CARD-USF Autism Health & Wellness Symposium. This one day conference is aimed at unifying the community around Health & Wellness for individuals and families impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorders. Thanks to the generous donations and support from the family and friends of Andrea Tabor, we are excited to have Dr. Tim Weil, Dr. Heather Agazzi, Dr. Kathy Armstrong and Susan Snover share their expertise on a variety of health related topics. Research indicates that children with disabilities, including autism, are at increased risk of a variety of chronic health conditions such as obesity, in part due to medication side effects, limited access to fitness opportunities, and challenging behavior. This year's event will provide an onsite screening of children at risk for Autism Spectrum Disorders. Join us for EDUCATION, AUTISM SCREENING, and ACCESS to COMMUNITY RESOURCES at the 2011 Autism Health & Wellness Symposium on October 29th at Polk State College, Winter Haven Campus 10:00-3:00.
This Year's Symposium: October 29, 2011
The 2011 Autism Health & Wellness Symposium will highlight the importance of screening for autism and offer screening appointments with Dr. Danielle Sutton. Early detection of children at risk for autism and connecting families with available community resources are important steps toward successful long term outcomes. The CDC estimates an average of 1 and every 110 children have an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and encourages coordinated screening. Autism is a lifelong neurological disability that affects a person’s ability to communicate, understand language, play, and socially interact with others. The Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (CARD) appreciates your support in connecting community at the 2011 Autism Health & Wellness Symposium.
