Tickets on Sale for Bouquet Garden Club Fall Fashion Show
Winter Haven, Fla. — Tickets are on sale for the Bouquet Garden Club’s annual fall “taste and tell” fashion show on Wed., Oct. 26 at noon and 6 p.m. With fashions provided by Casual Chic of Auburndale and Beall's Department Store of Winter Haven, this year’s theme is “Boots and Blooms.” Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at the Garden Center, 715 Third Street N.W., Winter Haven. Office hours are Mon. 8-11 a.m.; Wed.-Fri. 2-5 p.m.; Sat. 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Reservations are encouraged for 6 p.m. as the noon fashion show is nearly sold out. The menu selections for lunch and dinner include Beef Wellington and Ruskini Aurora pasta salad by Chalet Suzanne; open-faced crab sandwich and broccoli salad by Harry’s Old Place; wood-fired grilled chicken, seasoned rice and blue cheese chopped salad by Outback Restaurant; pulled pork and corn pudding by Fred’s Southern Kitchen; beverages by Richard’s Fine Coffees; and assorted desserts.
In addition to valuable silent auction items and door prizes, a wide variety of quality orchid plants will be sold by Gross Orchids, LLC, a locally owned and operated nursery in Lakeland with more than 15 years' experience growing orchids. The auction opens at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
For more than 50 years, proceeds from the annual fundraiser have supported numerous continuing area projects including: Arbor Day plantings at local elementary schools; financial support for the Humane Society of Polk County, Keep Winter Haven Clean & Beautiful, Avon Park Correctional Institution’s projects and Winter Haven Council of Garden Clubs; Florida Federation of Garden Clubs’ scholarships; maintenance of the Garden Center butterfly and water garden; City of Winter Haven Adopt-a-Median; Florida First Start Christmas contribution and gifts to needy families; Habitat for Humanity landscaping; and Inman Park’s Blue Star Marker rededication.
Founded in 1946, Bouquet Garden Club membership is available for a $30 annual fee that includes monthly meetings, luncheons and other activities. The theme for this year is: “garden as if life depends on it… which it does,” an inscription from the book “On Bringing Nature Home" by author Doug Tallamy. Goals are to cultivate friendship and learning, tend the environment, share learning within the community and encourage new practices to make a difference in the environment.
Officers are Trudie Kirkland, president; Becky Reeves, first vice president; Margaret Horvath, second vice president; Micha Ewell, recording secretary; Linda Finkler, corresponding secretary; Marilyn Alderman, treasurer; Eugenia Tucker, past president/advisory.
