LAKELAND, FL – This September, The Loft Art Gallery will showcase the erratically fantastic work of Domingo Martinez.
Martinez’s paintings make their debut during downtown Lakeland’s First Friday festivities Sept. 6. A free reception complete with live music, wine and hors d’oeuvres is scheduled for 6 - 9 p.m.
Born on a family vacation in Salerno, Italy, Martinez lived a fascinating life abroad before settling in Lakeland, Fl.
It was here that Martinez rekindled his passion for painting with classes from Ms. Jenny Baca and Nancy Puri.
“I paint what I see, what I like and use whatever techniques or objects I feel fit,” he says.
Martinez has continued to paint on his own since 2001 and occasionally attends Paint Along Studios for what he calls “fun learning.”
“His work is a little out of the ordinary,” says Dave Collins, owner of Paint Along Studios and the The Loft. “It’s distinctly folk style, but very erratic. He uses all of the wrong colors and often glues things to his pictures.”
Martinez’s work is what art should be; an expression of creative skill and imagination – don’t miss it, Collins says.
The Loft Art Gallery is located upstairs in Paint Along Studios in Lakeland
