Two touring artists are lending their talents to raise funds for string camp scholarships in an intimate concert on March 28 at 7:30 p.m. at LkldLive. Grammy Award-winning cellist Mike Block and Celtic fiddler Hanneke Cassel will perform for an audience of just 200 with proceeds funding the ISO’s Beth Mason Young Artists Endowment.
Block is a multi-style cellist, singer, composer and educator who founded Mike Block String Camp in 2010. While still studying at the Julliard School, he joined Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, toured extensively throughout the world and won a 2017 Grammy Award for Best World Music Album.
Cassel is a Boston-based performer, teacher and composer who started as a Texas-style fiddler and went on to win the 1997 US National Scottish Fiddle Championship.
Prior to the performance, Block and Cassel will present a workshop and teach a Masterclass for Florida Southern College students.
In 2016, the ISO created the Beth Mason Young Artists Endowment Fund to provide scholarships for promising young artists. Proceeds from this special concert will fund scholarships to the Florida Southern College String Camp and the Mike Block String Camp in Vero Beach.
Tickets are $35 for reserved table seating and $20 for general admission. LkldLive at Studio B is located at 202 N Massachusetts Ave; the entrance faces the railroad tracks.
