If you’ve ever felt out of place in a wine shop or intimidated while ordering a glass of wine at a restaurant, Red Door Wine Market can boost your confidence.

Red Door has announced two three-week Introduction to Wine courses. Participants can sign up for Wednesday classes that run July 10, 17 and 24 at 6:30 p.m., or Saturday classes that run July 13, 20 and 27 at 4 p.m. Cost is $75 per person.

“These classes will help you learn to describe wine and find what you like in a wine shop or on a wine list,” says owner Richard DeAngelis.

Participants will learn what to expect from a $10 and $20 bottle of wine, and what to expect when they splurge on more expensive wines. The course also will address the basics of food and wine. Finger foods that complement the wines are served throughout the hour-long class each week.

“We learn through tasting how pairing the right food with wine changes the interplay,” DeAngelis says. “Some wines are better cocktail wines than food wines.”

The goal is not to make attendees “wine geeks,” but simply to build confidence, he says.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling: (863) 937-9314.

The classes will be held at Red Door Wine Market, 733 E. Palmetto St. For more information, visit www.reddoorwinemarket.com.
