Kelly Boehmer’s sculptures reinterpret famous stories. She’s bringing her unique vision to The Loft Art Gallery, where her work will be featured through the end of October.

The show debuts during downtown Lakeland’s First Friday festivities on Oct. 4. A free reception with live music, wine and hors d’oeuvres is scheduled for 6 - 9 p.m.

Boehmer’s use of color and texture is what brings her sculptures to life.

“The sculptures have a childlike appearance that is both pitiful and magical,” she says.

She uses characters and scenes from fairytales, the Bible and pop icons.

Boehmer earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2003. Three years later, she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Florida, School of Art and Art History.
