Music Faculty Showcase: Special Edition

featuring the FSC Music Faculty

Receiving its premiere 100 years ago, Igor Stravinsky’s “L’histoire du soldat” (The Soldier’s Tale) tells the age-old story of how to deal with the devil. Although its completion coincides with the conclusion of World War I, the Soldier’s Tale is not a commentary on the war. Based on the Russian folk tale, The Runaway Soldier and the Devil, Swiss writer C. F. Ramuz created a libretto to accompany the music in which the rhythms continually shift and change. The work was originally written for seven musicians, a narrator, actors, and a dancer.
