Florida Dance Theatre Celebrates 20th Anniversary With “Tutus & Tuxes”

LAKELAND, FLORIDA- Florida Dance Theatre is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary in roaring fashion. The public is invited to Tutus & Tuxes, an evening of 1920’s-inspired festivities complete with food, fun, tutu-clad local celebrities and of course, plenty of dancing.

Tutus & Tuxes takes place Sept. 28, 7-11 p.m. at the Lake Mirror Center. A swinging 1920’s jazz band will provide the soundtrack for the evening. Guests are encouraged to wear “roaring twenties” garb and display their best moves on the dance floor. Those who need a rest from all the action can enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres prepared by Chef Lo of Millennium Catering.

To fittingly celebrate the anniversary, local celebrities will don tutus in a “jail and bail” style auction to benefit the theatre. Guests will bid for their celebrity of choice to wear a tutu at a rate of $10 per minute. The first bidder for each celebrity will have the pleasure of selecting his/her tutu from a one-of-a-kind collection colorfully designed by volunteers.

Once the celebrities meet their personal fundraising goals for the night, they’ll reward the audience with a silly dance, entertaining stunt or humorous act to show their appreciation. Whoever raises the most money will be crowned Prima Ballerina.

Celebrities to be in attendance include:

  • Kevin Cook and Tiffany Kitchens Cook, City of Lakeland

  • Justin Troller, City Commissioner

  • Howard Wiggs, Mayoral Candidate and City Commissioner

  • Tiffany Osler and Ashley Link, Junior League of Greater Lakeland

  • Cynthia Haffey, Platform Art

  • Terry Worthington, United Way of Central Florida

Tickets to Tutus & Tuxes are $50 per person. A cash bar will be available, but the purchase of a $25 wristband grants access to an open bar. To buy tickets or help sponsor the event, call (863) 802-0399 or visit www.floridadancetheatre.org. All proceeds go to the Florida Dance Theatre.
